This Sunday during both worship services, you’ll have the opportunity to see several students be baptized. These are always my favorite times. Not just the dunking part, but all that it means in the life of that student and their family – and to all of us at FAC. In our baptism class, we talk about baptism being a public confession – something you do in public to say to everyone “I’m a follower of Jesus!” The public part is all of you reading this – those in the body of Christ who are now a part of that young person’s spiritual family. Even if you never meet them or know their families, your presence, participation, and prayers at First Alliance Church are an integral part of how God is shaping them and molding their lives into the likeness of Jesus.
So as you watch baptisms this Sunday, don’t get caught watching the paint dry – don’t let it pass you by as just another Sunday, whether you’ve watched 10 or 1000 baptisms. Keep your eyes, ears, and heart open. Let God speak to you through the words of the students or their parents. Listen for the Holy Spirit to move you regarding your role in the lives of others as a part of the body of Christ. And enjoy our time together as God’s family!
