Attending church was not my experience as a child. I remember being left sitting under the tree in my front yard as the neighborhood gang was called home to prepare themselves for catechism class on Wednesday nights and mass on Saturday evenings. I remember feeling like I was missing out on something. My understanding of Christianity was so limited. I was not only left sitting in the grass but grasping for answers. One conversation went something like this: I asked, “So, Jesus was born on Christmas and died on Easter?” The girl who lived next door replied, “Yes.” That was it. Jesus in a Nutshell. Jesus 101. Jesus for Dumbies.
I recall when I was 10 years old asking my mother to take me to church. And sweetly, she did one Easter Sunday. We attended a lovely church, where we had never attended before, where we did not know a soul, and where we never went back. That Easter Sunday was the only time I remember attending a Protestant church service before Jesus radically transformed my life as a college student.
Easter Sunday is one of those rare occasions when people who don’t normally attend a church service are open to the experience and perhaps willing to step out of their comfort zone to make it happen! Who do you know that needs an invitation? Ask your Father in Heaven who He wants you to invite. Imagine, He created every man, woman, and child and desperately wants to be reconciled to each and every one… so desperately that “He sent his one and only Son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
Let’s make room in our lives for those who don’t yet know Jesus! It’s time to celebrate! Who doesn’t want to join a party?
