The university where Brian (my husband) and I attended was a small Christian college that had an incredible community-like atmosphere. Most would joke and say it’s because it was located in the middle of a corn field (true) or that it was because there was really nothing else to do there but bond with your fellow college students (somewhat true just because there are some really fun things to do there. Ever heard of the Silent Night basketball game?)

Because of this strong sense of community, I would have to say one thing that was unique about that school was the way you would react when you passed someone on the sidewalk. These occurrences would look something like this:

Step 1: Look them in the eye

Step 2: Smile at them

Step 3: Greet them by name

I have to admit there were many situations (because I am NOT the best at remembering names) where I would panic when I would see someone walking toward me and start searching my mind, “What is their name? What is their name?”

There was that sense of being known and seen, though, that was extremely comforting especially since we were in a new environment and surrounded by a group of people where we for the most part wanted to be noticed and acknowledged as a person.

For our FAC family I would have to say those feelings of being seen and known and connecting are very real also. There are opportunities that exist to help with that!

Recently our FAC women have connected through Life to Life Investments, our newest component of women’s ministry. Life to Life began with large group Gatherings which took place in homes where the vision was cast for Life to Life and women were able to meet other ladies from our church. Next, women were invited to sign up for Life to Life tables, smaller groups of four to seven women which met in homes again but this time around food as well as conversation questions and only one time each month for April, May, and June. Finally, a discipleship component was introduced with a session that broke down those barriers that are keeping women from wanting to invest in the lives of other women. All of this will be happening again so watch for dates!

If you would like to connect even more our FALL sessions will kick off with sign- ups August 18th and 25th at our Ministry Fair. Once again we will offer MomGroup, Secret Sisters (with a fun, new twist), our Ohio Valley District women’s one day gathering, Wednesday night Bible study (Finding I Am by Lysa TerKeurst), and Thursday morning Bible study (Children of the Day by Beth Moore.)

We look forward to getting to look you in the eye, smile at you, and greet you by name!

Speaking of greeting people by name, please also join me in welcoming Jessica Freeburne to our FAC staff. Jessica is our Administrative Assistant for Pastoral Care and will be assisting in areas of care including our prayer ministry (prayer bulletin and lay shepherd email), benevolence, counseling, meals ministry, and homebound ministries.
