How’s Your Service?

This is one of my favorite times of the year! “Why?” you ask. UK Football? No. Fall and winter approaching? Nope. Kids back in school? You’re getting warmer…

Each fall in FAC Kids, we start up a new season of KidServe Team. KidServe is open to all 4th grade students, and it exists to involve kids in the ministry, teaching them about serving, leading, and the ways that God has created them to engage in His Kingdom. Through the school year, we meet two Wednesdays a month, and the kids get the opportunity to serve primarily on Sunday mornings and at other times in FAC Kids.

I love KST each year because it’s so amazing and fulfilling to watch our kids learn, change, and grow during the year. They’re learning new skills, learning about themselves and how God has wired them, and learning about Jesus – our greatest example of a servant-leader.

For some of the serving our kids do, it’s totally behind the scenes – and in some cases it must stay behind the scenes. I often tell them, “If no one notices that you’re doing your job, then you’ve done a great job.”

It always challenges me to check my own service. Am I looking for an extra “pat on the back” for simply doing what I’m called to do? Am I losing my focus on the fact that I’m not merely performing a task, but I’m serving Jesus, whether I’m teaching from the Bible or scrubbing a toilet (both of which are very important…)?

Our theme verse in KST is Colossians 3:23-24. Everyone on the team memorizes it, and it’s always my prayer that it will encourage, challenge, and motivate our kids in all that they do. You’ll have to look it up and let it do the same for you!
