It is humbling to think that God has chosen to use the prayers of his people to be a channel of power for his church. He could have chosen another way, but he didn’t, he chose prayer. I’m not the only one who has experienced the power of a praying church. When we work without prayer, we get what man can do, when we work with prayer we get what God can do.
Prayer is a gift that God has given to each one of us, not all of us can sing, not all of us can teach, not all of us have the gift of hospitality, but to all of us he has given the gift of Prayer.
My three convictions about prayer:
A church cannot accomplish its mission apart from prayer:A church being active and a church accomplishing its mission are not the same thing. A church can do a lot without prayer, God will allow it, but a church accomplishing its mission comes only by the power of God moving powerfully among its people in such a way so that after the dust settles all Glory goes to God.
A life of faith, and life of prayer always go together:Without prayer it is impossible to please God and prayer is one of the demonstrations that we are living by faith. Prayer asks God to fill in the gaps, grow our vision and change our hearts.
Jesus prayed therefore we pray: Prayer is not the goal, becoming like Jesus is the goal, prayer is the means that God has given us to become like him. Jesus was the greatest person in human history, and to think that God is working in our lives to become like him is amazing. Jesus prayed therefore, we pray.
As your pastor I ask that you take every opportunity you can to pray for our church, our city and our nation. I hope to see you at prayer night, but if it is not possible please be a part of our praying church family all throughout the week.
Grace and peace and I love being your pastor…
