The Message is Hope

First Alliance Church

I love to sing. I am not a good singer, so I mainly sing when I am alone. One of my brothers wrote in our family’s Christmas card that I was the worst singer ever and another brother reminded me that “the Bible says make a joyful noise”. All the while, I still love to sing. Sometimes it is incredibly loud to the point that adding a microphone would be cruel and unusual punishment for listeners. Car rides are my own personal concert—Minus the cool light show and intricate choreography. Cleaning my house is way more fun than it should be and the Titanic song is just better when scrubbing the kitchen sink.

Recently I have been diving into songs from my childhood in the church and giving them renewed space in my life. From the ever complex You are Holy to the goofy Cartoon song, all of them have been rushing into my life like a precious audible photo album full of memories. One song in particular stopped me dead in my tracks simply titled I Love you, Lord.

“Take joy my King in what You hear. May it be a sweet, sweet sound in Your ear.”

Father, I wonder if the sound of my life is pleasing to You. My prayer is that it isn’t just noise. And I pray it isn’t silence. May it be a rhythm that matches Your heart beat. I confess that I have sang my own song louder than the song You sing over me.

As we gather together this Sunday, I hope that we do not start worshiping God when we enter the sanctuary, but our lives are acts of worship and our hearts rejoice because we get to worship our God and King together again.
