Text: John 18:1-12

Quotes:

It seems there is always enough spiritual insecurity and guilt in any of us on any given day to give us pause and cause us to wonder aloud, “Lord, is it I?”

Take care of the handle of the door your hand takes hold of.

Because every door opens onto a whole new street and you may not like where it leads you.

“Hesed” This is the “I won’t give up on you” side of who our loving God is.

We get conditional love all the time… (if you are good I will love you.)

We get reciprocal love all the time… (I’ll love you if you love me.)

Jesus has just laid down the demanding cost of discipleship and John 6:66 says, “many turned back and no longer followed him.”

“Brothers Karamazov”  I once played an evil trick on an old friend and I have hated him ever since. -Fyodor Dostoyevsky

…when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. James 1:13-15

Sinful choices have a way of building calluses over your heart that even the sweetest appeal cannot crack.

Did all those prior conversations and all those times spent in that garden mean nothing?

If any enemy were insulting me, I could endure it. If a foe were raising himself against me, I could hide from him. But it is you, a man like myself, my companion, my close friend, with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship, as we walked with the throng at the house of God.  Psalm 55

Judas was enslaved by his choice. And it must be said that if he hadn’t taken the first door, he’d never have found the last one.

Judas was enslaved by his choice. And it must be said that if he hadn’t taken the first door, he’d never have found the last one.

Look in my face; my name is ‘Might-have-been.’ I am also called ‘No-more, Too-late, and Farewell. -Dante Gabriel Rossetti in The House of Life

It’s All A Matter of Doors

1.Choose the door that takes the most courage and faith to open.

2.Given a choice between a terrible truth and a beautiful lie, choose the truth every time.

3.Have the humility to admit you chose the wrong door.

4.The door marked repentance opens life right back up to the original road of your walk with him.

5.Take the door with the fingerprints of God on it.
