My son, Jordan, works in our offices part time while he completes his never-ending schooling. He's a nature-loving kid, and that proves helpful when we discover a bird trapped above a ceiling tile, or in the kitchen area, or flapping around in the gym (which happens more than you think it would!). His task is to catch the bird and set it free.

It's both fun and painful to watch: running around waving a towel, hootin' and hollerin', exit doors wide open, the bird frightened and squawking. The painful part is every time the bird crashes into a wall or a ceiling beam, and you wonder, "Is it ever going to make it to freedom?!"

The best news is that Jordan will usually catch the bird. I watch him gently catch it, then he lovingly and carefully cradles it in his hands, then takes it outside and sets it free.

And every time I see him do that, I wonder... I wonder how many times God is chasing after us in the places of life that have us trapped, wanting to set us free while we keep banging into life and the pain it inflicts on us? And I wonder when we are going to stop and just let Him love us and set us free, to be who we were meant to be?
